Pre-CNY Miri Trip

I guess many people had visited Miri for the past weeks to purchase CNY goodie, clothes, getting new haircut and etc. Well, I was one of them as well but different thing was I came back to Brunei empty handed haha

It was more like spending my Sunday like any other usual Sundays except that this time I traveled a little further. I just wanted to experience some Pre-CNY spirit as I couldn't find that feeling in Brunei yet. And... I did! People were doing crazy shopping in most departmental stores and crazy long queues everywhere!

Enough ranting, below are some shots taken during my Miri Trip~

It was rainy season in Brunei and so it was in Miri too.

Look at the water level! Initially Hubby planned to drive Baby Minnie but luckily he changed his mind and drove RX. Thank God!

When we arrived Miri, we went straight to Pelita area and had our brunch at a Kopitiam named QQ. It was pretty near to 2020 kopitiam and there were actually two kopitiam named QQ. One is with red 'QQ' wordings and another one has got big roasted duck as its signage with green background.

I remembered during my previous visit to Miri, I had my lunch here as well and what attracted me was its Handmade Noodles. This was the reason why I wanted to bring Hubby to try it out this time.

Each A Cup, Times Square

New Pearl Milk Tea beverage store in town!

Recently I've been hearing people posting pictures or raving bout "Each A Cup" on facebook and twitter which got my heart itched and wanted to try it out so badly!

Out of blue moon, Hubby brought me to Times Square today (which really surprised me cause he doesn't like to go there and this was only our third visit together to Times Square actually). Although I knew "Each A Cup" is located within Times Square building but I did not know which unit and thus, Hubby and I had to walk few rounds inside the building to find that place. And I never knew that there was this passage next to Sugar Bun which there were 2 or 3 more units there and "Each A Cup" was there! I should say we were quite fortunate enough to have decided to walk in that passage and found it, or else I would be nagging at Hubby for quite some time regarding this haha!

Anyways, back to the topic!

I saw few posters pasted on the walls of the store and briefly scanned through some of its background. It originates from Singapore and I must say it does stand out among the other beverage stores which serves similar drinks. Lotsa of varieties of drinks to choose from the menu and what I like the most is that they not only have pearls with normal size but also mini pearls! I'm loving it to bits! And also, they serve Ai Yu! Happy die me!!!

Without second thought, I ordered a cup of Jasmine Green Tea with Ai Yu and a cup of Mini Pearls Milk Tea. And these cost me $2 thus I'm assuming $2 for each cup. If you're a person who doesn't like sweet stuffs, "Each A Cup" would definitely suit you cause customers are allowed to choose the sugar content upon their request! Ranging from 0% (no sugar) to 120% (very sweet). And I wonder would anyone really request 120%? That would be really unhealthy!

Well, for both my drinks, I decided to go for the normal one and the sweetness was acceptable. In fact, it was less sweeter than we thought (which this is a good thing to us)! Hubby loves the Jasmine Green Tea with Ai Yu very much! Each sip on the green tea, I felt a tad bit of bitterness lingered in my mouth which the feeling was quite indescribably good and very refreshing! And I bet if would taste even more better if lemon was added hehe! As for the Mini Pearls, it was very chewy. Unlike some pearls served by other stores, when chewing on the pearls, it turned out to be quite hard to chewy with floury taste which showed that it wasn't well cooked. But, it's different for the mini pearls at "Each A Cup"!

There are so so many more drinks which I would like to try out soon and it definitely is gonna be my favourite place for Pearl Milk Tea from now on!

Pureland Vegetarian Restaurant, Kiulap

Few days ago was 15th of Chinese lunar calendar and after like 2 years, I finally made revisit to this vegetarian restaurant! I bet most of you know that due to religion, some people decided to become a temporary vegetarian on every 1st and 15th day of lunar calendar.

Well in my case, it was a spontaneous decision that I had became a temporary vegetarian on that day (not full day though, it was merely for breakfast and lunch). And it did make me felt so unbelievable of myself and actually made me felt pretty satisfied and of course, holy haha! Actually when Ein asked me where to have lunch, I just simply answered "Let's have vegetarian today!" without second thought and she as well didn't even think twice and agreed to my suggestion. And just like this, we both ended up in Pureland Vegetarian Restaurant located in Kiulap.

Why there you may ask as I know during day like this (1st and 15th day of each month), people usually opt to go to Metoo located at Seri or first branch of Pureland located at Menglait cause these two restaurants hold vegetarian buffet on these days.

The answers are pretty simple cause we were both in Kiulap at that time and I am not such a herbivorous person thus visiting the other two restaurants that serve buffet might make me disappointed cause I don't get to choose the food I'd loved to eat. Thirdly, it's because I don't have to squeeze or 'tap toi' with strangers due to the big crowd in the restaurants.

I remembered the first time when I visited this restaurant it was under a different management and the food was just average. Then months later I made a revisit again with mom to have our breakfast there by ordering those fried noodles, I was quite disappointed with the food quality. Thus before I entered this restaurant the other day, I was pretty excited to find out whether the food quality has improved or not after these years. And guess what? It did!!!

Being regular customers, Ein recommended me some dishes but I thought since there were only 2 of us so 2 dishes were enough for us. We made decision to order the Buttermilk Abalone Mushroom and Spicy (香辣) Beancurd. Frankly speaking, I was pretty surprised with the improvements! I was thinking probably with the new management, they replaced the old chef with a new one who is more experienced and trust me, the Spicy Beancurd is a must try!

There are still many different dishes which I've yet to try out but definitely will try out soon especially the Hokkaido Series. I am very curious of what is it about and if possible, I would like to try out some mocked seafood dishes!

And if you're interested to try out their food soon, do it before it's close for CNY preparations! The restaurant will be closed for business starting on 31st January and only will reopen the business on 10th February :D

**Note: since it's a vegetarian restaurant, I'm labeling it under 'Halal'.

Fun Wok's Ocean Quarry Kolomee, Kiulap

I made a visit to Fun Wok Restaurant the other day cause dad wanted to have porridge. And the first place came to my mind was Fun Wok as I remembered Ein once told me Fun Wok serves tastier porridge compared to Lucky so I thought we might give it a try.

There were few types of porridge (fillings) to choose from and to save time, I had the most common one, Minced Chicken and dad decided to go for Century Egg & Chicken porridge. The portion was quite a lot which was enough for two. I highly recommend you guys to try it out!

Guess what bro ended up ordering? Ocean Quarry Kolomee!

Yes, you didn't see wrong, Ocean Quarry Kolomee, the halal version.

Seriously, I don't quite get it like how this Ocean Quarry phenomenon happened. Seems like most restauraneurs think these two words, "Ocean Quarry" can really help them to attract more customers and eventually earn more ka-ching. In this case, the Ocean Quarry Kolomee was sold at $2.30 per bowl (30cents more expensive than the non-halal version at other places).

Bro ordered it plainly just out of curiousity but surprisingly, it was presented just like how Ocean Quarry Kolomee should look like; even the signature orange bowl also same!

And obviously, it didn't taste the same! *You know, I know why it wouldn't taste the same -wink-* The taste was completely different lar... but no harm trying lar... who knows this version suits you? ;)

Minced Chicken Porridge with fried wanton skin as toppings, $4

Century Egg & Chicken porridge with century eggs, $4

Egg tarts, $3

No wonder..

No wonder I can't upload my pictures to flickr no matter how many times I had tried...
And the reason behind it was because I had used up all the free space provided for this month!
Must be those KK pictures =(
Anyways, I'll search for alternative solution to this problem and there will be an update very very soon! *promise!*

Hubby's 25th Birthday Dinner

This year, we celebrated Hubby's birthday by having dinner at Empire's Atrium Restaurant.

It was my very first dining experience at Atrium (we used to visit Pantai more when it came to Empire's buffet) and I found it much better than Pantai cause it's air-conditioned! Haha! I remember I didn't really enjoy that much when dining at Pantai cause half way through the meal, I was perspiring. Not good!

Surprisingly, there were quite a lot of people having their meal there on that night (mind you it was Wednesday, not weekend!) and we felt fortunate to have the table pre-booked instead of walk in. Probably due to payday plus bonus, there were quite many locals dining there too.

As the day when we visited happened to fall between the Christmas and New year thus it was full of festive spirit and even the appetizers station was very nicely decorated. Most diners happened to be family with elders and young children thus it was pretty disturbing as children were making sound and roaming around. But it didn't matter anymore cause everyone was in high spirit due to the festive season and I actually enjoyed it a lot! Not to forget, there were few tourists shooting down Atrium's dining area from the hotel lobby and made us felt quite awkward haha!

I would say the buffet was really expensive pricing at $60 per person. With Hubby's membership and the 2 free meal vouchers given by Empire, Hubby's family and I was able to enjoy the buffet dinner by paying at only $140 for 5 persons. Great deal?

And I wonder why the buffet didn't include coffee or tea? Even warm/cold water wasn't provided either. Had to purchase the $3 per bottle mineral water or order beverages from the menu. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Food wise, there was plenty of selections; from appetizers to ambuyat and meat dishes to seafood on ice! Here are some of the menu; Roasted Chicken, Ambuyat, Rojak, Mee Jawa, Pasta, Seafood on ice (the available seafood were prawns, scallops, mussels and oysters!), Lamb Rendang, Chicken Rice, Sushi and many more. Not to forget they even have Shawarma station which you can make your own shawarma by selecting the type of ingredients that you want.

Overall, I would say that it was really a nice place to have meal provided with such ambience. Perhaps you might think that it's a little overpriced but once in awhile, it should be alright ^^
