Recipe: Baked Salmon with butter

Here is the recipe for Baked Salmon with Butter!

italianjob-5

It's actually an easy prepare dish as most of the ingredients can be easily found in everyone's kitchen except for Salmon fillets which you can purchase it from Utama Grand or Snofood. If my memory serves me right (it's been awhile since I last visited Snofood), the salmon fillets sold in Snofood do not have the salmon skin attached to it while the ones sold in Utama Grand have. So, if you're purchasing from Utama Grand, don't forget to remove the fish scales before you bake or perhaps you, can request the staff to do it for you ^^

The ingredients needed are:-
  • Garlic (chopped finely)
  • Black pepper powder
  • Butter or Margarine
  • Garlic Salt *optional*
  • Salmon Fillets
Directions:-
  1. Firstly, clean the salmon fillets and remove the scares (if have) and pat dry with kitchen roll.
  2. Prepare a baking tray and lay aluminum foil on it then put the salmon slices on the baking tray.
  3. Preheat the oven at 180 degree celsius for 5 minutes.
  4. Put thin slices of butter on top of the salmon; enough to cover just half of the surface.
  5. Sprinkle chopped garlic on the salmon then black pepper powder (amount according to taste).
  6. Sprinkle fine amount of garlic salt on the salmon -optional-
  7. Bake the salmon for 15 minutes approximately.
Note:- Do start checking the salmon in oven during the 10th minute as the thickness of the salmon varies thus it might take more or less that 15 minutes.

Recipe: Baked Mushrooms with stuffed Spinach

italianjob-4

Ingredients:-

Philadephia Cream cheese, frozen spinach, bacon, large wild mushrooms, chopped fined garlic, butterand cheese powder (read 'Extra note' for more information).

Directions:-
  1. Cut the bacon into smaller pieces.
  2. Preheat the oven.
  3. Remove the mushrooms stems and arrange the caps properly on baking tray. Bake for 5 minutes then remove from oven.
  4. Boil the frozen spinach until it is soften. Drain the spinach and set aside.
  5. Melt butter and stir fry the garlic, bacon and spinach. Add in cream cheese. The amount of cream cheese is to be tasted.
  6. Fill the mushroom caps with the cooked spinach mixture. When it’s done, you can sprinkle some cheese powder on top.
  7. Baked the mushroom for 10 – 15 minutes using low heat of 150degrees (when you first bake the mushrooms, its juice would come out thus just bake until the juice is ‘almost’ dry up; not totally dry up!).

Extra note:

  • Philadephia Cream cheese can be found in most local supermarkets, frozen spinach can be found in Supasave. Same goes to large mushrooms, it can also be bought from Supasave. We choosed to use the 'white' wild mushrooms.
  • To Muslims readers, you can replace the bacon with chicken meat.
  • To avoid wastage, you can chop the mushroom stems into smaller pieces after removing it from the mushroom. Then fry together with the spinach mixture (Step 5). We were also preparing Mushroom Soup on that night thus we added the mushroom stems in the soup instead.

Happy cooking!

KK & TAIPEI TRIP (14th-20th Jul 2010) - DAY 4 in Taipei (Part 2)

Continue from this post...

After we had visited Taipei 101 Observatory deck, we decided to visit other shopping malls in Xinyi District.

The management was really thoughtful to build a bridge/pathway that connect the Taipei 101 to New York New York building located on 2F. There are also other bridges connecting to Grand Hyatt Hotel and Taipei World Trade Center.

kktpei-253
Look at the crowd in front of Taipei 101 entrance!

kktpei-254
Transport in Taiwan is convenient as taxis are found everywhere

As it was Saturday, crowd was found in every little corner of Xinyi District and I guess another reason could be that New York New York was having closing down sale.

kktpei-255
After some walk, we found ourselves between Shin Kong Mitsukoshi A9 and A11. There was also street performance!

kktpei-256
I was really famished and this advertisement board had cheered me up as I know I was one step closer to fooooooood!

We headed over to the A9 building as most of the restaurants were located there. The restaurants were located on 6F and there were many choices; Shanghai cuisine, shabu-shabu, Japanese cuisine and etc. These restaurants looked quite classy and prices weren't that cheap but we were really hungry thus we ended up choosing a Japanese restaurant named Saboten which was specialised in serving pork chops.. yea, Pork Chops!

The restaurant was full at that time so we had to wait on the bench for our name to be called. Considered lucky for us as we only waited short while before getting our seats while others who came later than us had to experience longer queue.

kktpei-257
Queue outside the restaurant

Food samples on display

kktpei-259
During our visit, the restaurant was having Summer Promotional Set (enough for 2 pax) and after getting the price quote and list of food included, we thought it was rather worth and ordered a set. It cost NT$860 for a set and it included Pork Chop (150g), Deep fried Pork Roll, Pork Burger Patty, Lean Pork Chop, Shitake Skewer, Tender Chicken Chop and also some salads, side dishes as well as free flow of cabbage, miso soup and rice. Drinks were also included.

kktpei-260
This baby girl was so cute! She kept smiling at us :D

kktpei-261
Green tea was served

kktpei-262
We weren't sure what this drink was.. I was suspecting probably it was some Peach drink..

kktpei-263
Before our food was served, the friendly staff placed these on our table and explaining to us that we had to ground the sesame seeds. After that, add the special made bbq sauce provided then dip the pork meats in this sauce.

kktpei-268
Chef's signature salad; it was yummy!

kktpei-269
Side dish

kktpei-270
This side dish is called "山药" (or known as Chinese yam) and is a very popular plant in Taiwan. More pics here.

kktpei-271
Miso Soup, Taiwanese version tasted nicer as it was less salty

kktpei-272
Here come our main course! Picture above is actually an ala carte dish which we ordered as we were afraid the food included in the set weren't enough for the 3 of us but we were so wrong!

kktpei-273
The set meal that we ordered; yea i know, all fried food and seemed very unhealthy but it was heavenly delicious so worth it lar plus once in awhile mah!

kktpei-274
Look at the omg-licious cheese!!! *sinful!*

Oh I forgot to mention that two servings of ice cream were served too (included in the set meal).

kktpei-275

Strawberry~~~

kktpei-277
Bro was feeling bloated and blur like 'sotong' after he finally finished his food, LOL!

kktpei-278
Ordering receipt~

Although our legs were still feeling tired (despite having sat down for a meal for an hour), we forced ourselves up and continued shopping as we were on a mission. A 'Longchamp bags' Mission haha! A relative of ours asked us to help her get some Longchamp bags and although we knew that Taoyuan Airport does sell it but we didn't wanna risk cause we knew some of the bags were limited edition and might not be available anymore. So we traveled here and there just to find Longchamp store in Xinyi District and finally found it! *tears* A big thank to the helpful staff behind Shin Kong Mistukoshi A9 Information counter!

kktpei-279
The only Longchamp store located in Xinyi District *i think*. It's located on 2F of A4 building of Shin Kong Mitsukoshi.

We had an interesting encounter; after choosing few bags, we wanted to make payment using cash. The staffs were kinda surprised and sincerely told us that it would take her some time as they rarely (actually they said they only got once or twice in a year when customer pay cash O.o) have customers pay cash so they were unsure of how to key in stuffs in their system.

Oh, we were also informed that we were able to claim back the tax ;)

kktpei-280
Outside Shin Kong Mitsukoshi

kktpei-281
Inside the Taipei City Hall MRT

Every time when we used the MRT, we would passed by this stall selling Dorayaki but never got a chance to try out until that night. We bought three:- Red Bean, Swiss Chocolate flavour and Yam flavour. The dorayaki were served cold and cost only NT35 each!

kktpei-282
There were 8 different types of flavour available, Red Bean, Peach, Latte and etc!

kktpei-283
After purchase dorayaki from the stall, we passed by this restaurant specialised in serving dumplings and we thought we should give it a try! We bought 20 steamed dumplings and 20 pot stickers considering it as our dinner as it was already 8-ish at night and our last meal was 5-ish in Saboten.

kktpei-284
Waiting patiently for our number to be called

kktpei-285
Our order ticket

Back in hotel!

kktpei-286
Couldn't wait to taste the Dorayaki!

kktpei-287
Swiss Chocolate Flavour - Just one bite, Hubby was hooked and this explains how yummylicious it tasted!

kktpei-288
Yam Flavour - I like the Yam flavour!

kktpei-289
Bro had the Red Bean Flavour

After having dorayaki, it was time for some dumplings!

kktpei-290
The chopsticks, take-away box, soy sauce and chili paste packets

kktpei-291
*drools*

kktpei-292
I heart this! Taiwanese Potstickers are shaped different from our version which theirs are elongated. But the fillings are most likely the same; cabbage and pork. There are other types of fillings such as beef, kimchi and etc but not from this stall.

kktpei-293
In Taiwan, most of their packet or bottled tea are unsweetened, very healthy!

kktpei-294
Other than food and beverages, I think this is our only purchase of the day!

CKV Restaurant (Kevin Restaurant), Jalan Sultan

CKV has been around for quite some time and being located in city's center, I believe that it would bring more choices for the people who work in that area.

During our visit, it was on a Sunday afternoon thus there weren't many customers except us.

ckv-1
The restaurant's interior

I was told that their Hakka Mee was good so I decided to give it a try while others also tried out their Penang Fried Kueh Teow, Tom Yam Soup, Crispy Noodles in sauce and Vietnamese Spring Rolls.

ckv-2
The menu

After some waiting, the food finally arrived!

ckv-3
Penang Fried Kueh Teow

ckv-4
SKY with his Penang Fried Kueh Teow

SKY commented that although the kueh teow might look good but don't be deceived cause it didn't taste good too. It could be due to the lack of 'wok hei' and aroma thus causing a big disappointment in the Penang Fried Kueh Teow.

ckv-5
Vietnamese Spring Rolls

Hubby likes Vietnamese Spring Rolls a lot and I think he did enjoy CKV's Viet Spring Rolls.

ckv-7
Hakka Mee

So finally my Hakka Mee arrived and my first thought when I saw it was it just looked like Kolo Mee. Taste wise, it was just plainly average. Nothing to 'wow' about.

ckv-8
Crispy Noodles in sauce

I guess this was the only dish which cheered us up a little as it wasn't as disappointed as the other dishes we had ordered.

ckv-9
Tom Yam Soup

I didn't get to try out this but I heard from others it wasn't that good too =/
