KK & TAIPEI TRIP (14th-20th Jul 2010) - DAY 4 in Taipei (Part 1)

On our third day in Taipei, we decided to raid Xin Yi District which is considered an area where there are few significant malls and departmental stores selling high end or luxury brands. And Taiwan's popular landmark, Taipei 101 is located within this area.

Direction:- Take Blue line to City Hall Station Exit 2 if you're using MRT.

Eslite Store is located right next to the MRT station so just try to look for Eslite if you lose your way in getting to MRT station at the end of the day.

On the left, it's Eslite Store and the building with red stilts is Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (A8). Further down a bit is where Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (A4) located and also Bellavita.

kktpei-189
As it was still early, thus we decided to shop in Eslite and if you're into lomography, you can find lotsa lomo cams here but the prices are quite similar to what we can get in Brunei.

This floor consists of few restaurants which looked pretty classy and expensive

After we finished window shopping in Eslite Store, it was almost time for our lunch appointment at Mr. J (a restaurant owned by Jay Chou) thus we decided to head there for lunch. Although the restaurant is considered to be located within this area but still it was quite far to walk so we decided to take taxi.

kktpei-193
Passed by Taipei 101 when we were on our way to Mr. J

I told the taxi driver to drop us off at the Taipei Medical University but he dropped us at the hospital instead and telling us the university was just next to the hospital. But we still managed to find the university after asking direction from a hospital volunteer. For your information, the restaurant is located inside the university.

This is part of the campus where Mr. J is located

There are actually two branches of Mr. J where the first branch is located at somewhere near to the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall and the second branch (known as Mr. J II but i just refer it as Mr. J here) is located inside the Taipei Medical University and it's also the one which I had visited. Upon research, there were reviews saying that the restaurant is usually full during dinner and also weekends. Thus, to avoid disappointment I had made reservation days before I flew to Taiwan through the restaurant's online reservation system.

How to book?

It's actually pretty easy to make reservation online. Just go to the website and click "message" on the left side bar. It will then lead you to another page where you can write down the date, time, no. of persons visiting and not to forget the branch that you plan to dine in. After leaving message there, do check back time to time to see if the staff has confirm your reservation.

We were awed by the restaurant's interior the moment when we stepped in the restaurant. It was really pretty! But I believe it would be even nicer during night time. The restaurant is considered quite big but the tables were arranged quite near to each other that you could actually eavesdrop the conversations between other people in the restaurant.

We were arranged to sit in a corner table which was near to the see through window glass. And behind me was this giant poster of Jay Chou and I managed to take nice pictures with it.. awwwww~

Even the tissue holder is Jay-tified

We ordered 2 sets of set meals and an additional order of pasta. The set meals came with salad, soup, pasta, drink and cake; not to forget, a basket of garlic bread.

kktpei-205
Linguine with minced chicken in creamy red sauce; this is the additional order

Seriously, I was surprised by how good the food tasted! I didn't have any high expectation before arriving the restaurant as I thought, some reviews could be like over rated. However, it was really a good dining experience in the restaurant; the ambience, the service and the food. Till now I still remember the taste of the Shrimps Spaghetti in Orange Sauce! It's definitely a must try.

kktpei-206
Juice drink and cake served after main course

kktpei-207
Cute waitresses in school uniforms similar to the costumes of "Secret" movie - this is also one of the reasons why we choosed to dine here instead of the main branch =D

kktpei-208
It's also a restaurant popular for family gatherings

kktpei-212
Upon paying, we were asked to fill in the comment form and there was one question why did we choose to dine in this restaurant. And we actually answered, "cause it's run by Jay Chou" haha!

kktpei-213
The restaurant was actually 85-90% occupied when we were there

When we were done with our meal, we decided to visit Taipei 101 and other places within Xin Yi District by taking taxi again.

Taipei 101!!!!!

kktpei-220
This is a very common sight in Taiwan as many Taiwaneses love to bring their pets out for a walk or even shopping inside department stores or shopping malls! And these pets were well trained and very obedient (and cute too!).

We passed by this buffet restaurant called "Wasabi" and it seemed good but too bad we didn't have time to go back there for dinner

kktpei-225
Didn't get a chance to try this when I was in KL and finally had a chance to try it out in Taipei!

kktpei-226
Few varieties of ice-cream flavours to choose from

kktpei-227
We had double scoops ^^

There are many luxury stores in Taipei 101 which mostly are high end brands like Chanel, LV and even Patek Philippe!

After window shopping for sometime, we passed by a bakery which was holding a charity event with lotsa media and passer by standing there busy taking pictures. We were puzzled and just when we were decided to leave, I heard the event's host mentioning to the name of popular Taiwanese drama "Yi Nan Wang"(意难忘) lead actress name, 张凤书. Immediately we stopped and turned back to see the actress and also snapped few pics!

Jason Market Place, it's a supermarket which sells lotsa interesting local and imported products.

kktpei-243
Hubby was really high when he passed by this section in the supermarket. Sadly, we couldn't bring back any of those back to Brunei.

After we finished walking around in Taipei 101, we decided to visit Taipei 101 Observatory deck which was located on the 89th floor. To visit it, we had to go to 5th floor and it's where we could to purchase our entrance tickets to the observatory deck.

We showed our Youth Travel Card to the lady behind the counter and bought our ticket at NT$350. After buying the tickets, just queue up to use the special lift dedicated to reach 89th floor. As it was holiday season during our visit thus the queue was so bloodily long. But no worry as the staffs were really pro and efficient so it was quick enough till our turn. Just an extra information, visitors are not allowed to bring in big backpacks up to 89th floor due to security reasons (i guess). But fret not, the security guard would help you to keep it in a locker and you can get it back when you're done visiting.

kktpei-244

kktpei-245
The weather was good on that day thus we were able to enjoy very nice view of Taipei. The building with brownish ancient Chinese building's roof is Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
