Hockian Association CNY Dinner 2007

I was given a chance to attend Hockian Association CNY Dinner 2007 last Sunday together with my family and relatives. It was held at The Mall's Songket Ballroom.

Hockian Association is one of the BIG associations in Brunei which has many members and of course, most of them are Hockian. My dad and few of my uncles are also their members and each year there would be a CNY dinner which gather all the members together. They usually issue one free entrance ticket to each member and if you want extra tickets, you gotta purchase it yourself at about $50 per ticket. There will also be prize giving award to children of the members for getting good academic grades during the previous year. The prizes included ang pow and a certificate issued by Hockian Association. This year, there were extra ang pow sponsored by Hua Ho departmental store which is $5 shopping voucher for each student.

It was my second time to have entered Songket Ballroom. Songket Ballroom is a really 'modern' ballroom where about 4 big tv screens were equipped and there were even 'live' show broadcasting on the tv screens. The decorations is really nice. Just look at the picture below.

Let's talk about FOOD now.

There were cold patter, shark's fin soup and 5 main courses plus a dessert on that night.

The Four Hot & Cold Combination Platter wasn't that bad. There were Gong Bao Chicken, Seasoned Jelly Fish, Crab Fritters and the Seasoned Green Seaweed. Out of these four i still like the Crab Fritters the best. The meat was soft and was really crispy but they were so karit that there were only 12 Crab Fritters given which means i can't eat extra unless somebody let me have his =(

Closer Look

Aww~ the soup was great too! Well the shark's fin was kinda thick.. but the taste was great.

Stewed Chicken With Chinese Herbs

Well i love the gravy more than the meat. It just somehow reminded me bout Eight Treasure Duck which i had during CNY Eve last month and made me wonder how come there is never a dish related to duck meat during these types of dinner?

Deep Fried Golden Snapper with Sweet & Sour Sauce

Aiyo! Just say Sweet & Sour fish lar... don't know who is the one naming this dish with such a loooong loooooooong name. The fish was huge! The sauce was too little =( The fish was really crispy!

Golden Fried Phoenix Prawns

It's the dish that almost break off my teeth. Seriously, how did the chef manage to fry the prawns till they were so so 'stiffed'? This dish is a No No~

Stirfried Seafood in Yam Ring

The Yam Ring was not that good too. It wasn't that soft as i thought it would be and it wasn't crispy enough too.

Fragrant Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf

My favourite dish of all! I really love the fried rice and it smell really great. The rice wasn't soft and wasn't hard either, it's just right! It was fried with minced chicken.

Chilled Beancurd with Longan

Well due to my illness (flu + cough), i made myself not to touch anything cold. Yea.. not even A BIT. And i MADE IT! *applauses* ^^

Though i just had my dinner before blogging these all out but i really feel hungry after finished saying bout the Fried Rice in Lotus Leaf... OMG~ I feel like i can smell it now!
